Nishkama Karma Foundation was established in memory of our grandfather Dr VRK Raju, a philanthropist who believed ‘seva’ and ‘Shiksha’ as an integral part of life. At Nishkama Karma Foundation, we harness individual potential to bring about positive change in the society. Our services result in tangible changes via empathy-led, innovative solutions. Join us in our mission to craft a future that is more equitable and compassionate.
With an Indian population of nearly 141 crores (1.4 billion), there is a huge unmet need to serve the underprivileged people across the country. Nearly 1.87 lakh NGOs in India are offering various services. However, there is a significant portion of needy people that are untouched by the existing network of NGOs. This gap is growing day by day and we believe every one of us are responsible to serve those in need.
⇒ Rural communities in India suffer from a significant lack of access to
healthcare. This lack of access
results in high rates of maternal mortality, infant mortality, and malnutrition, as
well as low life
expectancy and low vaccination rates.
⇒ More than 60% of rural Indians with major diseases choose to leave
their state to access treatment.
⇒
Each year, nearly 15 lakh people die due to poor quality of healthcare system.
⇒ India has nearly 197.3 million (19.7 crore) persons with mental
disorders; stigmatization & financial
barriers prevent timely treatment.
⇒ It is alarming to know that India is the world's suicide capital with
over 2.6 lakh cases of suicide
in a year.
⇒ 70-92% fail to receive any treatment.
⇒ 0.3 mental health outpatient services per 100,000 people.
⇒ 0.04 psychologists and 0.30 psychiatrists per 100,000 people.
⇒ 0.8 beds per 100,000 people.
⇒ Nearly 189 million (18.9 crore) undernourished population in India. The
homeless population
is particularly vulnerable among the total undernourished population since they are
mostly invisible
in the policy process.
⇒ More than 2 million homelessness people in India, with the majority of
them living in urban
areas. Only 18% homeless population has claimed to receive subsidized food from public
distribution
systems and the remaining 82% barely have one meal per day.
⇒ Cows hold immense cultural, religious, and economic significance in India,
often regarded as
sacred beings. There are more than 5 million stray cattle roaming the streets of India
with most of
them in bad condition – either starving or injured after getting hit by vehicles.
⇒ Although, there are more than 5,000 gaushalas across India, there is a
significant gap to
address the issue. Offering food, veterinary services and medical assistance can be an
invaluable way
to help.
At Nishkama Karma Foundation, our mission is to create a healthier, more equitable society for all living beings. We are dedicated to:
Helping underprivileged children access quality education by providing learning resources, financial support, and essential supplies - so they can build a better future.
Promoting accessible healthcare, diagnostic & medicine support to improve the quality of life in underserved communities living in rural, tribal, and other remote areas. Be an advocate for mental health issues.
Ensuring that every underprivileged has access to nutritious food by providing sustainable food support and advocating for food security.
Safeguarding the welfare of animals through rescue operations, advocacy, and educational programs that promote compassionate and responsible care.
Our vision is a world where every underprivileged individual and community has the opportunity to live with dignity - supported by access to quality education, healthcare, nutritious food, and compassionate environments for animals. We envision a future where:
⇒ Every child, regardless of their background, has access to education and the support they need to learn, grow, and build a better future—making education a true catalyst for lasting social change.
⇒ Quality healthcare is a fundamental right, including both physical and mental well-being, accessible to all.
⇒ No one suffers from hunger, and sustainable food systems nourish every community.
⇒ Animals are treated with compassion and live free from cruelty and neglect
Seva (Service) Programs Caring for those in need through health support, essential medicine support, food distribution, and animal welfare.
Shiksha (Education) Programs Helping underprivileged children stay in school and dream bigger through education support and community learning.
At Nishkama Karma Foundation, everything we do is rooted in compassion and responsibility—through Seva and Shiksha.
Seva is our way of reaching out in moments of need. Whether it is providing food to the hungry, medical support to the underserved, rescuing and caring for animals, or standing by communities during disasters—we are there to serve with empathy and care.
Shiksha is our hope for a better tomorrow. Many underprivileged children are forced to give up on education due to lack of resources. We step in to support them with school supplies, financial help, and guidance—so they can continue learning, dream without limits, and build a future they deserve.
We believe true change happens when we not only help people survive today, but also empower them to thrive tomorrow. Through Seva and Shiksha, we aim to bring dignity, opportunity, and hope into every life we touch.
